Brazil is definitively one of the biggest natural food producers in the world, counting on 28.34% (as per 2018 census) of its vast (3,287,086 square miles) and fertile territory dedicated exclusively to agriculture. Definitively one of the biggest current business opportunities to be addressed in the country.

Agricultural land considered herein refers to the share of land area that is arable, under permanent crops, and under permanent pastures. Arable land includes land defined by the FAO as land under temporary crops (double-cropped areas are counted once). Land abandoned as a result of shifting cultivation is excluded. Land under permanent crops is land cultivated with crops that occupy the land for long periods and need not be replanted after each harvest, such as cocoa, coffee, and rubber. This category includes land under flowering shrubs, fruit trees, nut trees, and vines, but excludes land under trees grown for wood or timber. Permanent pasture is land used for five or more years for forage, including natural and cultivated crops.

Brazil’s important contribution to global agribusiness is unquestionable. It is the world’s largest producer and exporter of coffee, sugar, and orange juice, and is highly ranked in the production and export of soybean, corn, ethanol, pork, beef, and poultry chicken. Today, agribusiness represents 22% of Brazil’s GDP, 1/3 of all employment and almost 40% of exports. Agriculture and livestock have always made up an important share of the country’s wealth.

At this point, we´ve been highly focusing on solutions for delivering broadband internet & clean renewable energy to the 1500 biggest and more productive farms in the country, thus representing immediate access to a USD multi-million market.

A wild variety of services are in high demand right now, most of them highly dependable on satellites. Such internet delivery must happen massively through satellite technology, as fiber does not cover a significant part of this target territory.  Narrowband IoT network & tools are highly necessary and desirable for precise harvest technologies to be implemented.

Hence, we are now looking forward to finding strong partners for satellite geo mapping (LEO imaging services) and for crop optimization (e.g.: IoT LEO cube sat constellations to create the necessary coverage and its respective operational network) to make it happen. A wide variety of other serious infrastructure issues – from roads to ports, from milk collection to grain storage, from animal health to traceability systems – can also be addressed on such macro business giant opportunities hall.

Since 2013, coming from a previous successful and long record of Satellite Telecom remarkable path, MEREGE Ltd was hired by ANANTH (www.ananthtech.com), an Indian corporation, to start multiple business development fronts beyond the satellite market. Initially starting by searching for international cooperation between private companies on geo monitoring services, quickly migrated into develop more specific and interesting opportunities on the AGRIBUSINESS arena as well.
